MA 512 Curriculum I: Managing the Curriculum

The intent of this course is to provide opportunities for you, as experienced educators, to reflectively explore your teacher knowledge in relation to the field of curriculum studies. I believe each of you has a particular curriculum perspective and that this viewpoint is grounded in knowledge particular to you, that is, personal knowledge situated in your family/cultural background, prior experiences and theoretical/practical knowledge. Underpinning this course is the idea that curriculum may be interpreted in multiple ways; this multiplicity will be explored through readings, in-class activities, and reflective writing. Throughout the course you will be asked to inquire into and question your teaching/learning experiences as well as the context in which you teach, and the ways these inform your particular curriculum perspective. With this in mind we will explore different ideas throughout the course as a way to develop your understanding of curriculum and how this may inform your future teaching practices.
